Summer Educational Experience (SEE) FAQ
1. How long has SEE been in existence?
This is SEE's inaugural year. The Island Theater has been running educational programs since it opened in 2018.
2. How much does it cost?
SEE is tuition and participation fee-free. Students may have to provide their own dance shoes and performance tights.
3. How many community service hours can students earn?
Students can earn up to 200 community service hours by participating in this experience. The total number will depend on their availability and function in the production.
4. Can students apply participate on the production staff as well as perform in the production?
At this time, students may do both; however, that may change based on the audition and interview pool.
5. Are all students who audition guaranteed a role?
Experience is not necessary to audition. However, placement in the cast is not guaranteed. Actors must be 19 or under by the production date.
6. Are all production staff applicants guaranteed a place?
Production staff interviews will determine placement. No experience is necessary and all interested students will be placed. Some production jobs will entail less work and more supervision than others. Applicants must still be 19 or under by the production date.
7. Who are the mentors?
Mentors are theater professionals dedicating their time to teach and train our next generation of theatrical youth. Mentors are selected on the basis of their ability to work with youth, educate and help them produce quality theater. Mentors are vetted and background checked.
8. Does being a mentor pay?
There is a stipend available for qualified mentors.
9. What is the time commitment?
Selected students will be expected to be at the majority of the rehearsals.
10. Will this show be double cast?
This will depend on the audition pool. We would like to have two casts to cover illness or unplanned absence. However, it will depend on having the right actors to fit the parts.
